Advancing Research on Antisemitism in the Arabic-Speaking World

The study of antisemitism in the Arabic-speaking world requires a rigorous, research-driven approach that accounts for historical, ideological, and digital dimensions. As part of the Antisemitism Research Initiative's (ARI) mission to advance scholarship on this issue, this event will present key findings from ARI's latest research and examine the complexities of tracking, analyzing, and countering antisemitism in Arabic-language discourse.
Drawing on ARI's recently published research in collaboration with CyberWell researchers—"The Rise of Online Antisemitism in Arabic: Six Months Post-October 7" and "Antisemitism in the Arabic-Speaking Sphere"—this discussion will explore how antisemitism in the Arabic-speaking world has evolved in recent months and the ideological and political forces sustaining it. It will examine the primary trends shaping antisemitic discourse in Arabic-language digital spaces and assess how social media platforms and their algorithms amplify these narratives. Additionally, the event will address the methodological and linguistic challenges researchers face when studying Arabic-language antisemitism and consider how research findings can inform policy responses, digital platform regulation, and educational initiatives to counter its spread.
Speakers
This event will feature a conversation between:
- Omar Mohammed, Director of the Antisemitism Research Initiative (ARI)
- Vered Andre'ev, Head of Research at CyberWell
- Lara Portnoy, Chief Operating Officer at CyberWell
- El Mehdi Boudra, Founder of Association Mimouna, a Moroccan nongovernmental organization dedicated to advancing Muslim-Jewish dialogue
Together, they will discuss their collaborative research, shedding light on their findings, methodological challenges, and broader implications.
The discussion will provide an in-depth examination of the complexities of studying and addressing antisemitism in Arabic-speaking communities, particularly in digital spaces. It will also explore how antisemitic narratives have evolved, the role of online platforms in their proliferation, and the strategies available to counteract them.
This event invites scholars, policymakers, and researchers to critically discuss Arabic-language antisemitism, its digital manifestations, and practical approaches for mitigating its spread.
