Capitol Hill Siege Reports
In March 2021, just two months after the January 6th Capitol Hill Siege, the Program on Extremism staff released a preliminary assessment of the siege participants. This assessment provided initial insights into the wide array of domestic violent extremist (DVE) ideologies, actors, and movements present at the siege, and helped shape the national conversation in Washington and in both national and local media. One month later, when news continued surfacing that a number of individuals charged in relation to January 6th had military background, the Program issued a joint report with the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point to examine military experience among the siege participants. And on the one-year anniversary of the Capitol Hill Siege, we released a third report assessing the subsequent federal investigation, prosecution, and broader domestic violent extremism landscape one year on from January 6th, 2021.
