On October 12th, 2021, the Program on Extremism at The George Washington University hosted a special event featuring a cross section of journalists who have covered the events of January 6th for the last several months. They offered their reflections, insights, and latest news from covering the riot and the subsequent investigations, arrests, and prosecutions. This event was moderated by Program on Extremism Deputy Director Seamus Hughes, and featured:

  • Zoe Tillman, BuzzFeed News. Zoe Tillman is a senior reporter with BuzzFeed News and is based in Washington, DC. She covers courts, justice, and the intersection of law and politics. Before joining BuzzFeed, Tillman covered federal courts for the National Law Journal and Legal Times, and worked for a community newspaper in Prince George's County, Maryland. @ZoeTillman
  • Alan Feuer, New York Times. Alan Feuer covers legal issues for the New York Times. He has written about mobsters, jails, police misconduct, wrongful convictions, government corruption and El Chapo, the jailed chief of the Sinaloa drug cartel. He joined the Times in 1999. @alanfeuer
  • Katelyn Polantz, CNN. Katelyn Polantz is a CNN reporter based in Washington, DC. She writes about federal court action and politically sensitive investigations involving the Justice Department and the separation of powers. Before joining CNN, Polantz reported on the economics of large corporate law firms and DC's community of lawyers for American Lawyer Magazine and the National Law Journal. @kpolantz
  • Ryan J. Reilly, HuffPost. Ryan is HuffPost's senior justice reporter, covering criminal justice, federal law enforcement and legal affairs. His beat takes him to places like Ferguson, Missouri and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He started covering the Justice Department in 2009, and was a 2017 Livingston Awards finalist for his reporting on jail deaths. Reilly is based in Washington, D.C. @ryanjreilly
