The Program on Extremism at The George Washington University is seeking a dynamic and versatile Head of Technology to lead and manage the organization’s digital presence, technology tools, and multimedia content production. This role sits at the intersection of technology, communications, and digital storytelling.
The Program on Extremism at The George Washington University is seeking a dynamic and versatile Head of Technology to lead and manage the organization’s digital presence, technology tools, and multimedia content production. This role sits at the intersection of technology, communications, and digital storytelling.
The Head of Technology will oversee our digital platforms, manage and grow our social media presence, produce and edit multimedia content (including video podcasts), maintain our website, and help translate our work into engaging visual and digital formats.
The ideal candidate is both technically skilled and creatively driven - someone comfortable managing digital platforms, producing multimedia content, and identifying new ways to amplify the organization’s work online.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Platform & Technology Management
- Oversee the organization’s digital infrastructure and technology tools.
- Manage and maintain the organization’s website, including updating content and pages via Drupal.
- Ensure website functionality, accessibility, and performance.
Social Media & Digital Communications
- Manage and grow the organization’s presence across platforms including YouTube, X, Bluesky, and LinkedIn.
- Create engaging multimedia content tailored to each platform.
- Write posts, manage scheduling, monitor engagement, and track performance metrics.
Multimedia Production
- Produce and edit video podcasts and other multimedia content.
- Edit video and audio using platforms such as Riverside and Descript (or equivalent tools).
- Prepare content for publication on video and social media platforms.
- Maintain production workflows for recording, editing, and publishing.
Visual Communication & Content Design
- Transform research, reports, and organizational work into visually engaging formats.
- Create graphics, clips, short videos, and visual summaries suitable for digital distribution.
- Collaborate with staff to communicate complex ideas through compelling digital content.
Collaboration & Internal Support
- Work with staff to support digital needs for events, publications, and campaigns.
- Provide technical guidance on digital communications and multimedia tools.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Communications, Media Production, Digital Media, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of experience in digital media, communications technology, or related roles.
- Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts for organizations or media projects.
- Experience editing video and audio content for digital platforms.
- Experience working with content management systems (preferably Drupal).
- Strong visual communication and digital storytelling skills.
- Proficiency with multimedia editing tools (e.g., Riverside, Descript, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, or similar).
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong written communication skills for digital content and social media.
- Familiarity with analytics tools for social media and website performance.
Preferred
- Experience producing podcasts or video podcasts.
- Graphic design skills using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar.
- Experience working in research, policy, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
