Summary

On September 25, 2019, The Program on Extremism at The George Washington University, in conjunction with the Congressional Counter-Terrorism Caucus, held a panel discussion on the different components of a comprehensive approach to combating domestic terrorism in the United States. Experts explored topics including the implementation of domestic terrorism statutes to accompany existing criminal charges, the expansion of the Foreign Terrorist Organization List, and the impact of these proposed policies and government regulation of tech companies may have on aspects of  Section 230 of the CDA. Program on Extremism Senior Research Fellow Haroro Ingram moderated. The panelists included:

  • Mary McCord, Senior Litigator from Practice and the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection; Visiting Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center; Former Acting Assistant Attorney General for National Security at U.S. Department of Justice
  • Mark Pitcavage, Senior Research Fellow at the Anti-Defamation League
  • Alexander Guittard, Fellow at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue
