Countering Domestic Terrorism: A Conversation with John Cohen Event Banner

Summary

On June 15, 2021, The White House released a new National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism. Drawing on the intelligence and law enforcement communities' recent assessments, the new strategy lays out the core elements of how the U.S. Government will tackle the threat posed by domestic terrorism today. To discuss the new strategy, the assessments behind it, and more, on June 16, The National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE) and The Program on Extremism at George Washington University hosted an online panel featuring John Cohen, Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Assistant Secretary for Counterterrorism and Threat Prevention at DHS. Assistant Secretary Cohen discussed the state of domestic terrorism in the United States, the role of the Department of Homeland Security in addressing that threat, and other related topics. He was joined by Gina Ligon, the Director of NCITE, and Seamus Hughes, Deputy Director of the Program on Extremism, for a moderated panel following his remarks.
